Organic Totem — White Ceramic Sculpture
Organic Totem — White Ceramic Sculpture
A unique sculptural artwork by Ingrid Vermulst | Studio Wild Orange
Organic Totem explores the relationship between individual forms and the whole they create together.
Built from a vertical sequence of sculptural volumes, this one-of-a-kind ceramic totem brings together organic shapes, subtle asymmetry and a quiet architectural presence. Each element has its own character, yet finds its place within the larger composition. The result is a sculpture that feels both grounded and in motion, balancing stability with a sense of fragility.
The soft, pale surface enhances the natural contours of the clay, allowing light and shadow to reveal the subtle transitions between the forms. Rather than relying on colour or ornament, the sculpture draws its presence from proportion, rhythm and the interplay of solid volumes and narrow connections.
For Ingrid Vermulst, building a totem is an exploration of how separate elements come together to form something greater than themselves. The work evokes ideas of connection, balance and belonging — a reminder that a whole is built piece by piece.
Handmade in southern Spain, this sculptural object sits at the intersection of contemporary ceramic art and collectible design. Its understated palette and strong vertical silhouette make it equally compelling in a minimalist interior, an architectural setting or a carefully curated art collection.
Created to stand independently, Organic Totem is not simply a decorative object, but a sculptural presence that invites contemplation.
